Do You Want To Know? Music Tips and Ideas for a Halloween Party

Steven Spielberg is quoted as saying 50% of the film is the Soundtrack, so how much thought goes into the Soundtrack of your Halloween celebrations. Your evenings soundtrack is an essential part of your party, but can often be overlooked. Here are some tips to ensure that your party has style, you can focus on being the perfect host whilst your guests are blown away by your discerning taste in music.

Playlists:

If you have an iPod or other MP3 player, invest a little time before the night putting together a Halloween playlist. The more time you spend getting this right, the more time you can spend chatting to your guests, rather than worrying what song to play next. I usually spend £10-£20 downloading new songs (not albums) from iTunes prior to a party, purchasing some suitable themed tunes, modern hits and anything I know a paricular guest or group of guests are fans of.

Early Evening

When there is little chance of much singing
or dancing play your atmospheric tunes, its sure to get everyone in the Halloween mood, without wasting your best party tunes. Try and choose something a little less harsh on the ears than clanking bells and screaming ghosts, “Halloween Horror Scary Music” by Graveyard Grooves available from iTunes www.myspace.com/graveyardgrooves is a collection of horror sounds over smooth dance grooves.

As the night progresses start to mix classics like Monster Mash or Addams Family with more modern tracks, to keep the party going but not boring people with too much Halloween music, after all there is only so much novalty music you can listen to. Start with as many as 1 Halloween tune per 3 tracks spreading this to 1 per 7 or 8 tunes as its gets later.

Finally its time for your big Halloween tunes, mix your more up-tempo party music sparingly (1:10) with “Thriller - Michael Jackson”, “Ghostbusters - Ray Parker Jr”, “Devil Woman - Cliff Richard” & “Time Warp”.

Volume:

Consider that early in the evening your music should be background music, where as later on it will become the headline, slowly crank up the volume when a popular songs comes on.
